Well this is what we woke up to .... pretty spectacular.
We ventured down breakfast which happens to be another 152 steps from our room. Once you're down there the trip is worth it. They serve a lovely breakfast and the view is fantastic. Only downside, it's a bit windy but then Santorini is a windy island. It does help to keep the temperature down though.
We've decided that this part of the trip was just to relax, so we haven't too much planned for the next few days. We decided to walk down to the main Fira shopping area to look around. There were great photos to take everywhere I looked. Thank goodness for digital cameras. We had a bit of trouble finding where all the shops were. We made it to the main square ok but we took a left when we should have taken a right. At one stage we were heading back to the airport...no ready to go just yet though.

As we headed back to the main square we noticed a small alley way up the hill with a few shops. As we headed up it was a bit like Aladdin's Cave, more treasures at every turn. Their were lots of lovely clothing and shoe shops as well the usual "ye olde gifty shoppe" as our bus tour director would call it. Lots of art and jewelry stores too.
We had a lovely time wandering in and out as some of the alley ways were narrow enough to shade us from the sun. We found a really good restaurant to have lunch at (not a hard thing to do in Santorini).
After lunch we wandered around some more and we both found a few good things to buy. After a while we remembered that we had passed one of those places where the fish eat the dead skin off you feet. We thought we would give it a go. Mind you, I was a bit worried that the fish might all jump out like the ad on TV. Luckily they didn't and I bearly noticed them nibbling on my feet at all. It was nice just to sit for a while with our feet in the cool water. One fish in Terry's tank died. He swears it was from old age and not his toxic feet. I'm not so sure.
After this we headed for the clifftop walk, much to Terry's apprehension. To his credit, we got a fair way along and I was able to get some great photos.
That night we went to dinner at the highest rated restarant in Firostephani. After eating there I can see why. It was great value too, because we only ordered mains but they brought out complimentary breads to start and then we got complimentary desserts...and the bonus was it was just about 20 metres from the top of our steps.
Our first day was great even though we didn't lay around it was still relaxing.
