Bus Tour - Day 10

Today was only a half day of planned activities.

In the morning we headed towards the Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough. Glendalough is a glacial valley within the national park. One of the main attractions is a monastic settlement founded by St Kevin in the 6th century.

Unfortunatley it is mostly a ruin but that has it's charm too. Even before you get to the site you can see a tall tower. It's about 30m high with and entrance about 3.5m from the ground. These towers were a landmark that you see from a long way off and travellers could use these to find a safe haven.

One  other building that was still in tact was called St Kevin's kitchen. It's a lovely little stone building with one of the few remaining buildings with a stone roof.

There are also two lakes that within the valley we walked to the lower one and it was very pretty.

It was amazing to wander around the church and grave yard and realise the site is nearly 1500 years old. We have nothing to compare with this at home.

Our afternoon was free so we got a chance to go back into the shopping centre and have a wander around. We came across a lovely park in the centre of the city. It was very popular and would be a great place to escape to during your lunch break. You get inside the park and forget that you are in a busy city.

Dublin is a lovely city and again it would be great to come back and spend more time exploring.
