Bus Tour - Day 16

Our trip today took us to the city of Bath.  As you drive into the city you are surrounded by beautiful Georgian style sandstone appartments. There are two famous blocks that were designed by father and son architects.  The son designed a crescent moon shaped block of apartments. It quite amazing to approach it and see the apartments forming a gentle curve. The father built a series of apartment buildings in a full moon shape to replicate Stone Henge.  The apartments are very expensive. Terry and I looked in a real estate window and the was only one property under £1,000,000. Obviously a very expensive place to live.

Bath is  famous for it's Roman Bath House with healing waters. Unfortunately the main bath in the centre of the building was empty because they were getting ready for an event. There was one pool that still had water but it didn't really make up for the empty pool. The architecture of the building is amazing and the history of the place is interesting but it hasn't been one of my favourite sites to visit.

After the bath house we had about one hour of free time. We decided that we didn't really want to wander through the shops so we decided that we would head toward the river. I'm so glad we did because we found a small park right on the edge of the CBD. It's a walled garden that is owned by the people in the apartments that surround  the park. We walked around and noticed that its a place where people just come to relax. There were people on deck chairs, other sitting on park benches, some just lying on the ground.

There was one little girl chasing bubbles her mum was blowing for her. It looked so sweet that I asked the mum if I could take a photo. I started chatting with the mum and she told me the park is free to locals which is lovely (we had to pay  £1.50 each). It was a lovely way to spend an hour.  We decided it was much nicer to pick one thing to do and enjoy it rather than run around trying to fit too much in.

We headed toward Torquay and made a few interesting stops along the way. The first was an amazing chapel in the small village of Wells. We only stopped for a very short time to take some photos.

Our next scheduled stop was Glastonbury which is the English equivalent of Byron Bay or Nimbin. Great village for anything alternative. This was another place that it would have been lovely to have more time to wander through. The sun was shining, nearly every shop was selling something unusual, performers in the street and everyone seemed happy. There was some suggestion that you could get some "special" cookies here. Maybe thats the secret.

Our arrival into Torquay was lovely. It's a very pretty seaside town and our hotel it up on the hill overlooking the bay. It's an older hotel and must have been very grand in it's day.
