We headed for the Emerald Green Isle today. We travelled down the coast to meet the ferry at Cairnryan. The views along the coast are beautiful so it was a very pleasant trip.
The ferry ride was very smooth and comfortable. We explored the ferry and found a very nice lounge to travel in after being outside where it was freezing.
We arrived in Belfast and met a local guide who showed us around the city. Belfast is far more modern than other cities we've been to with a mix of modern and old buildings. The old buildings were beautiful and very ornate.
Belfast has lots of murals around the city. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community.
Our tour finished with a drive-by (probably not a good phrase to use in Northern Ireland) of Parliament House. Theirs looks a lot like ours with the long avenue up to the building on the hill.
Our final stop for the day was the Titanic Museum. It is really well presented and it was another museum that you could spend a lot more time there although we did get plenty of time to have a good look around. The building has been designed to look like the hull of the ship.
When we arrived at the museum the guide pointed out the studio where they film Game of Thrones. Unfortunately security is very tight and you can't get anywhere near the place. If you weren't told, then you would have no idea what was happening inside the building.
For dinner we decided we would find a typical Irish pub. Luckily there was a perfect one across the road from the hotel called Brennans. You walk into the bar where there are the usual pub tables then they also have booths that have doors that are very private. We were lucky enough to get a booth with Kari and Brad another couple on the tour. I had irish stew and the others had fish and chips with mushy peas. The food, beer and company was great and it was lots of fun tucked away in our booth.
After our meal we decided we should check out another famous pub called "The Old Crowne". This is a very old ornate pub with lots carved wooden booths and stained glass. We were lucky to get another booth where I drank my first glass of guiness.
We decided we were on a roll and thought we should finish the night with an Irish coffee back at the hotel. Today was a much better day than the previous few days so I feel a bit renewed and looking forward to the rest of the trip.
Another good view from our hotel.
